Hi Folks,Looking forward to the reunion. Receiving Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior in 1977 is the main thing I would like to report. The many ups and downs we all experience; including my personal struggles with depression, a divorce I did not want with 3 children involved, and the sudden death of my daughter in 2003 have been among countless things God has used to bring me now to agree with the writer of Ecclesiastes in his final chapter: "Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man." Wow! It's actually been 50 years? It doesn't seem possible. I can't wait to see everyone at the reunion and renew old friendships. After 14 years of living on Knife Lake, in Mora, Wally and I decided we really liked living on a farm better. So when our son, Edd & his daughter, Morgan moved home from Ft. Worth in 2005, we decided to find a farm & live together. We live on 10 acres and raise British White Cattle and pigs. God willing, we'll find someplace more land or be able to just buy just land to hay. God is still the most important thing in our lives followed by our family. We have 15 grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters. Dave & Edd live here in MN. Sue lives in IL, Tammy & Sam live in IN and Maggie lives in TX. Unfortunately, we don't get to see the ones out of state to often. Hopefully when I uploaded the pictures they turn out right. I'm not real good at uploading things. |

It may have started with a Choralaires concert telecast from the old Channel 2 studios on Como Avenue, but from the University of Minnesota I began a 45 year career as a television director, finally and honorably (if that word can be applied to contemporary commercial television) retiring only this year. Most of the first twenty years were spent directing evening newscasts and other programming at WCCO Television in Minneapolis. There were seven moonlighting years of teaching at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. I took an opportunity in 1989 to get into directing sports television, first at WCCO and then for a succession of TV broadcast rights holders over 25 years. In that time I directed around 2700 live major league baseball game telecasts (almost all Minnesota Twins) and around 700 live hockey game telecasts (mostly University of Minnesota) and now I'm done. My spouse Mary Ann McNeil and I live near Lake Harriet in the Washburn district. We have dogs, cats and wonderful memories collected during fortunate lives and challenging careers. A commercial break: The members of the reunion committee have worked hard to keep the costs reasonable. If you are able and you haven't done so already, send some dollars you've saved by their frugality to the WHS Foundation, washburnconnections.org. We all know that we live in a starkly different world from that of fifty years ago, and urban public high schools are proof. Washburn gave us a lot then, and now it needs a lot. Please give something back. |

I was the class car nut when I was in Washburn and carried that through the rest of my life, having gone into the car repair business in 1977 and opening my own business, MOTEC Auto Care Clinics in 1980. I brought the business with me to California in 2003 and sold my business January 2013.I've been married to my fourth wife for almost 11 years, have four children, four grand-children and three great-grand-children. When I came up for the reunion in 2004, I rode my Harley-Davidson motorcycle from California with my wife on the back. Two years ago, I had back surgery and had to give up 50 years of joyful riding and have gone back to having another Corvette (number 8) I'm playing it safe this time, flying up to Minnesota to spend time with old friends, relatives and to visit the Washburn Reunion. I'll see you there. |
